Something about our region
We are situated in Gornja Dubrava, a small village, which is in the commune Gornji Mihaljevec in the region Međimurje. We're approximately 2 kilometers away from Slovenia (boardercrossing Središče ob Dravi), aswell as 15 kilometers away from the town Čakovec and 20 kilometers away from the town Varaždin. At the moment Međimurje is the fastest economically growing Region of Croatia, known mostly for the wood and steel industry, which supplying the Croatian and European market.
The people are known to be very friendly, hardworking and always ready to have a good time. Most people are growing vegetables, fruit or feeding animals in their spare time, which is why there's a lot of biologically grown fresh regional food available. The region is also considered a wine region, the most common sorts beeing Furmint, yellow muscat, Renski riesling. Near our restaurant there are many small and big vineyards, with beautiful vine cellars, where you can enjoy tastings of local wine.
The village Vučkovec is also near our restaurant, which has the famous thermal park Sveti martin, which are very popular amonst people of all age groups. Near us there is also the village Mursko Središče, which offers a lot of possibilitys of long walks on special paths in the nature. If you want you have the possibility to visit the old Zrinski castle in Čakovec, which can be found in the city center.
Our beggining
Our path begins in 1985, when Jelena opened the pub " Krčma K Jeleni ". With a hard work we managed to expand our offer, since we added a Hall for hosting weddings, concerts and other partys. The restaurant was took over by the son Josip Novak and his spouse Milena Novak and over 25 years they managed to expend the restaurant to today's dimensions. Together we can praise ourselves with more then 35 years of tradition in cathering, cooking and service.
Food
The main merit for our food goes to Milena, our trained chef from Slovenia, whose food is the perfect expression of our native food. The main philosophy of our restaurant is a lot of good native food, prepared with fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits from our region through old recepies.
Wine
The head of our vine cellar and vineyard and the person to always happly and friendly greet our guests, that is Josip. He takes care of his vineyard with a lot of passion and love, because he knows that's the only way to harvest a truely unique and quality wine drop on par with todays standards.
